Copper Wire
Insulated copper, bare copper and grounding conductors in all common sizes.
A major research university, a research park and two hospitals generate a steady flow of renovation work — and a steady flow of unused cable.
University and research buildings are reworked constantly: labs are reconfigured, equipment is replaced, and older buildings get service and feeder upgrades. That work uses a wide range of cable — THHN and MC for power, shielded instrumentation cable for labs, communication cable for data, and fire-alarm cable for life-safety upgrades.
Because the work is often split across many small projects, the surplus tends to be partial reels rather than truckloads. Send the whole collection in one request and we will sort it by construction.
Instrumentation and communication cable is hard to price without identification. A partial reel of shielded twisted pair with no print on the jacket could be almost anything. Keep the box, the tag or the manufacturer label, or photograph the print before it fades.
For data cable, the category matters: Cat5e, Cat6 and shielded variants are different products. The box label settles it.
The businesses below are the usual sources of surplus cable here. We do not claim that any named facility has material available — this is who tends to hold it.
Champaign–Urbana is served by I-57 and I-74. Campus pickups need a little planning — loading zones, permit requirements and building access hours — but the surrounding commercial and industrial sites are straightforward.
We also cover Rantoul, Mahomet, Savoy, Monticello and Tuscola on central Illinois routes.
Dock height, forklift capacity, reel weights, gate hours and any site restrictions. It is the difference between a pickup that works and one that turns around at the gate.
Local FAQ
Yes, if the construction can be identified. Shielded twisted pairs with drain wires are priced as a construction, so the print, the box label or the reel tag matters more than the colour.
Often, if the material can be consolidated at one loading point. List each building and approximate quantity so we can plan the route.
Any of these can be quoted from reel tags and photos.
