Bare copper conductor, grounding electrode conductors, green grounding wire and bonding jumpers in coils, spools and reels.

Copper conductor on wooden reels stacked in an outdoor yard

Grounding conductor has the least to go wrong

Bare copper has no insulation to damage and no voltage class to argue about, which makes it one of the simplest surplus materials to price. Grounding electrode conductor, bonding jumpers and green-insulated grounding wire are all reviewed on the metal content plus size, with condition a distant second.

We buy bare copper in solid and stranded construction from #14 through 500 MCM, green THHN and XHHW grounding wire, and grounding conductors on spools, coils or reels.

What we need to know

Size and approximate weight are the two numbers that matter most. Bare copper is normally sold by weight, so a coil with a known weight is easier to quote than a coil measured by eye. If you have a scale, weigh it; if not, tell us the coil diameter and wire size.

Clean, dry copper prices differently from material with paint, solder, fittings or corrosion on it. Photograph the coil and the cut end so we can see what we are dealing with.

Clean copper, clear pricing

No insulation means the metal is the whole story.

Clean bare copper with no fittings, lugs, solder or paint is priced on weight and size. Coils that have been outdoors and oxidized are still bought, but the offer reflects the condition and any cleaning the material would need.

Green-insulated grounding wire is priced as insulated conductor, not as bare copper, because the insulation has to be removed before the metal is recovered. Say which one you have.

We do not buy ground rods, clamps, lugs or exothermic connection kits. Conductor only.

Questions

Bare copper questions

Do you buy bare copper by weight?

Yes. Bare copper is normally priced by weight and size, so a scale weight is the most useful number you can give us. If you cannot weigh it, the coil diameter and wire size get us close.

Is green grounding wire treated the same as bare copper?

No. Green THHN or XHHW is insulated conductor and is priced as such, because the insulation has to be stripped before the copper is recovered.

Can I sell short cut lengths of grounding conductor?

Yes, if the total quantity justifies handling. Short pieces of #6 or #4 add up quickly on a large job; bag them, weigh them and include them with any reels in the same request.
